Al Fresco Summertime Lunches

 

Given my choice, I would eat this everyday.  I do mix it up sometimes by adding chick peas or chopped cucumber - whatever I have on hand.  What's your favorite summertime dish?

It's crazy hot, so sweet pea and I have been busy crafting in the studio.  Here's a peak at what I've been working on. I'm sewing pillows with this mustard colored fabric. I think it will look great with our living room wall color.  (If I have time, I'll try and take pictures for a tutorial.)  The monogrammed burlap is for a new design that will be added to the EAB Designs Christmas collection.  If you own one of my burlap stockings, you're going to love this new item which includes custom screen printed monograms.  Stay tuned....

Blooming this Week

For the past three years, our hydrangea bushes did not get one single bloom.  Extremely disappointed,  I planned on digging them up but never got around to it.  Thank goodness I didn't because this year they are covered with the most lovely shade of flowers.

The cut flowers are long lasting and I've been placing arrangements all over the house.  In past years when the bushes were blooming, I would let the water evaporate out of the vase and it dried the flowers perfectly. Then, during the holidays, I would use the dried flowers in wreaths and on our Christmas tree.

Homemade Granola

 

 

When summer berries are in abundance, we love to have fruit parfaits for breakfast.  We layer our favorite yogurt (Stoneybrook vanilla or strawberry) with fresh blueberries, strawberries & raspberries and then top it off with homemade granola.  This particular recipe is from the Barefoot Contessa's first cookbook.  I vary the recipe depending upon what dried fruits & nuts I have in the pantry.  You can also find the recipe online here.  (My granola seems to brown faster than the time alloted in the recipe, so be sure to keep an eye on it.)

 

I always double the recipe so I have extra to gift to friends.  When packaged in cellophane bags, and presented with a fresh basket of berries, it makes a perfect gift for your dinner hosts to enjoy the next morning.
