I love patterned baking cups and can't help coming home with charming designs. Often times, after baking muffins, the decorated cups do not look as pretty as they did before they came out of the oven. They absorb some of the moisture and butter and the colors looked muddy and not as vibrant. I especially wasn't thrilled with this when gifting baked goods, or serving them to company. To avoid this, I actually now bake my muffins and cupcakes in my favorite standard cups (Reynolds Foil Baking Cups) and after baking, I insert them into my pretty decorated ones. No grease and the cups still look perfect.
