Some of my most treasured Christmas decorations are those made from antique quilts and vintage material. Many years ago, I purchased these two snowmen for my girls. Their scarves are fashioned from an antique quilt and their little hats from old sweaters.
Of course, a favorite detail is the acorn caps used for earmuffs.
This sweet angel has wings fashioned from an antique quilt, beautiful vintage lace and antique linen. Some years you will find her at the top of our tree. This year she has a special place on our writing desk.
This little snowman angel is one of two ornaments that I gave to my girls a couple years ago. The vintage leather buttons remind me of a blazer that my mom had when I was growing up.
You'll find lots of little ornaments on our tree, all made from antique quilts. Whenever I visit a craft show, I'm always on the lookout for unique pieces like these to add to our collection.
We're having some friends over for dinner tonight and I wanted to make a simple, but festive dessert. Inspired by an article I saw in Midwest Living magazine, I decided to make these cut-out sugar cookies decorated in all white frosting.
In contrast to the all white cookies, I also made a gingerbread cake. A dusting of powdered sugar looks like freshly fallen snow. Wishing you all a lovely weekend filled with Christmas sweets and fun festivities!
Petite mercury glass ornaments, and my favorite glittered bird are nestled in moss atop a wooden pedestal - especially pretty at night when the votives are lit.
Taken this morning about an hour after we woke up, just as the morning light was filling the room.
The stockings are hung and ready to be filled with sweet surprises.
Antique iron urns, placed by the kitchen windows, are filled with vintage ornaments and fresh greens. And the smell of Christmas has arrived in the kitchen as well, as our sweet baker made the first batch of Christmas cookies yesterday.
And a sweet manger, given to me by a dear friend many years ago, to celebrate what Christmas is truly all about.
Christmas came early for us this year. We just found out this evening that our daughter was accepted into The College of William and Mary! We are beyond excited and so proud of her!
This will be her home away from home beginning next fall. You may remember that I blogged about our college tour last spring. You can find more pictures and information on my previous post here. I don't think any of us will sleep tonight!
